CLEVER NOURISHMENT OF DESIGN hunger

Who are we?

We are a small, process-based design team that focuses on feeding the design hunger of our clients. While we do specialize in visual identity, digital and print design, eating, sarcasm, and bad jokes, we can offer solutions to any 2d and 3d design needs. If you don’t know what you need, ask us, we can help sketch the sketches and deftify* the lunches.

*we can make-up words too.

HOW DEFT LUNCH WAS MADE.

Rob and Corey met in the spring of 2009. They had an instant connection fussing over the details of an event logo their respective design teams were collaborating on. Later that year, Corey started as a Lecturer of Communication Design at SIU Carbondale where Rob was already an Assistant Professor of Design. Fast-forward to 2014, and a series of bad lunches—Rob and Corey started to regularly meet at the assortment of fast food places on campus and in town. Over these “bad” lunches, they would talk about teaching, design, politics, sports, and such. During these lunches, they noticed that they had some simple differences. Rob likes the Cubs and coffee, while Corey is a life-long Cardinals fan and does not like coffee (I know, weird right? a designer who doesn’t like coffee). Rob is short, and Corey is tall. Rob prefers gin, while Corey prefers whiskey or whisky. Despite these differences, they realized they both liked to eat lunch, and they both loved design.

Recently, they started to brainstorm fun projects to work on together, and started to knock out a few client projects in the small bits of time they had between their regular jobs and their respective work as design consultants. During the spring of 2016, Rob and Corey realized they should just go ahead and bite the sandwich and create a design team, thus Deft Lunch* was made. Beginning in November 2016, they started to offer their 2d and 3d design expertise to clients looking for creative, deftly-made design solutions.

*In case you were wondering, we felt that “Bad Lunch” was a bit too negative. Plus, not all of our lunches are bad i.e. Chango's Bar & Grill.
